Sustainable Development of Seaport Maintaining the Biodiversity

The aim of this research is to evaluate the environmental performance of the seaport operations in India, which majorly includes the Mumbai, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, and Cochin ports. This study makes use of secondary data sources and interviews with port officials to analyze the environmental performance of these ports. The areas in which these ports are doing well in terms of sustainability are identified, as well as the areas in which improvement is needed.  Improvement. The key findings of this report are that the Mumbai Port Trust and Visakhapatnam Port Trust go in for renewable energy sources in the form of solar power, Chennai Port Trust and Kolkata Port Trust working on waste management systems, and Cochin Shipyard Limited adopting lean manufacturing practices. The research has recommended that Indian ports have to learn from others by adopting the best practices in foreign countries and implementing high-end technologies to reduce the pollution quotient.
